English as a Second Language (ESL)
Hartley House offers free space to the NYC Department of Education to host five daily English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for 75 adults between 8:30am-4:12pm.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instruction prepares students with basic language skills, as well as critical academic and civic skills, needed to successfully complete higher education or job training programs. The emphasis is on improving English skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Instructional themes include work, family, citizenship, and topics based on student interests. ESOL programs provide instruction in listening, reading, math, oral and written communication, computer skills, and life skills for individuals with limited English proficiency.
