Since our beginnings more
than a century ago, Hartley House has responded to the needs of
New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen/Clinton community with
programs and services for children, teens, seniors and families
in an atmosphere of care and concern. |
|
|
| |
Our constant goal has been
to help individuals and families of Hell’s Kitchen gain the
skills they need to improve their lives and participate fully in
our society. The community’s needs today are similar to those
of the residents who lived here a hundred years ago: quality child
care, language classes, educational programs, recreation, culture
and the arts. |

Whether they’re homebound or more physically active, seniors are a big part of Hartley House. Our Friendly Visitors program sends volunteers to pay regular visits to seniors at home and help them with their groceries, errands, doctor visits, and even short walks around the neighborhood. Everyone at Hartley House is dedicated to keeping our senior population healthy and productive. |

Many of the people who come to Hartley House are newly-arrived immigrants who dream of raising their families in America. They speak little or no English, and have few if any job prospects. Hartley House offers them a warm welcome, friendly faces, and the important skill-building courses they need to learn English, prepare a resume, find gainful employment, and serve as responsible citizens. |
